Woli Arole Sends Strong Message to the Church

Nollywood actor-turned-preacher, Woli Arole, has sparked a wave of reactions online after issuing a strong warning to Christians about what he perceives as the creeping influence of materialism in the church.

In a heartfelt post shared on his official Instagram page, the comedian-turned-cleric voiced concern that the focus of many modern-day churches is shifting from spiritual growth to the pursuit of wealth.

“I say this as God’s prophet: Mammon is already creaking into the church. The talk of money, the worship of money. Christ did not die so we could become rich; he died so we could have eternal life. Wake up, oh saints. Share this message!!” he wrote.

Woli Arole, who rose to fame through his blend of comedy and Christian messages, now appears more committed to addressing what he calls “distortions in the gospel.” His latest statement, however, touches a nerve — confronting a sensitive issue many believers and preachers have avoided.

The post has since stirred diverse opinions across social media. While some praised him for speaking truth to power, others challenged his stance, arguing that prosperity is not necessarily incompatible with Christianity.

An Instagram user, @kolly.jay99, reacted humorously: “They will soon quote 2 Corinthians 8:9 for you, Woli. Dey play.”

Another commenter, @olorunnisola_ifedayo, offered a more balanced view:
“I pray the Lord gives the ‘SAINTS’ an understanding spirit. If Christ didn’t die so we can become rich, I’m sure he also didn’t die so we can become poor or lazy. The message is loud enough: we shouldn’t worship money or any other thing apart from God. Matthew 6:33 — Seek first the kingdom.”
